From the 25th November, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, to 10th December, International Human Rights Day, Side by Side participated in the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.

Violence against women is endemic. According to the UN, worldwide, 30% of women who have been in a relationship report that they have experienced some form of physical and/or sexual violence inflicted by an intimate partner during their lifetime.

The aim of these 16 Days of Activism is to galvanise action that will make transformational change possible. This includes speaking out on Gender-Based Violence, challenging the silence and stigma of GBV.

This year, our Side by Side social media channels were filled with religious voices from our different national chapters speaking out against GBV and gender injustice. Fourteen different chapters participated with inspirational videos and quotes. Each day we focused on a different chapter, and were inspired by their powerful words. The first and last days were collective Side by Side global days, where our collective voice was amplified.

Our movement keeps on growing, and by sharing the individual and collective voices during the campaign the message can be spread to all corners of the world. We hope this will inspire more faith actors to join the movement for gender justice. This was also an opportunity for those already part of the movement to inform each other of what they do and find inspiration in each other’s work.

Here is a collection of the videos and images shared during the campaign, we hope this inspires more faith voices to speak out against gender injustice.
