The We Will Speak Out coalition has published a new resource for prayer, reflection and action for the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence. See here: we-will-speak-out-prayer-resource-2016

This guide can be used by individuals, home groups, church groups or organisations to follow the 16 Days campaign (or at any other time of year) to pray into gender-based violence issues. The resource contains stories and ideas for each of the 16 days that illustrate how We Will Speak Out coalition partners have impacted the lives of women, men, girls and boys on highly sensitive issues such as domestic violence, child protection and sexual violence.

Sexual and gender-based violence is a global threat to the life and dignity of women and girls, men and boys. It also poses a challenge to social and economic development. However, it remains largely hidden as an issue.

One in three women worldwide will suffer from some form of violence in her lifetime. Of these, one in five will become a survivor of rape or attempted rape. Men may also be survivors of sexual violence especially during conflict.

Faith groups have a very significant role in speaking out against sexual violence and challenging the silence that too often surrounds issues of sex and gender inequality. They can help to change attitudes through the teaching and interpretation of sacred texts.

Faith communities can also respond to the needs of survivors, creating a safe and supportive environment where people can trust and support each other and regain their dignity.
