Official launch of Side by Side Burundi Chapter

The Burundi Chapter of Side by Side was officially launched in Bujumbura on 20 December 2016 thanks to the leadership of the Burundian National Council of Churches with support from Norwegian Church Aid and Christian Aid. The event gathered representatives from several Christian institutions, Muslim denominations, the Burundian branch of the African Children and Youth Network for Human Rights (YCNR) andsome national secular organizations. It is hoped that other institutions such as the Catholic Church will join the movement in January 2017.

The event was attended by two representatives from Kenya where a Side by Side national chapter has already been established: Charles Opiyo of Christian Aid and Fr Evangelos Thiani of the Orthodox Church who is the current chairperson of the Kenya chapter.
