We had a fantastic start to our webinar series with contributions from Side by Side Uganda, Muslim Aid and Lutheran World Federation.

The webinar started with Elsebeth Gravgaard (DanChurchAid) sharing why the UN Commission on the Status of Women is an important advocacy space in our work for gender justice. This was followed by an excellent presentation by Patriciah Roy (ACT Uganda Forum) about how advocating in UN spaces, making connections to country delegations, can strengthen national advocacy. The webinar concluded with inspiring contributions by Irene Anena (Church of Uganda) on the different ways they have enabled strong advocacy in country. This included working with women’s rights organisations, building the capacity of faith actors to speak out on gender justice, and so much more. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussions.

Our second webinar focused on thematic areas of advocacy. Rev. Judith VanOsdol, Program Executive for Gender Justice and Women’s Empowerment at the Lutheran World Federation started the webinar with a focus on human rights and faith.

“The language of faith matters to many, if not most, of the world’s peoples. And the language of human rights underpins all international agreements that frame engagement and accountability within and between nations. It is therefore critical to ensure that there is a time and place deliberately set aside for various faith traditions to engage in serious reflections on the inter linkages between human rights and faith, based on solid theological and sociological knowledge, and grounded in actual experiences in human development.”

Lotifa Begum, Global Advocacy Manager at Muslim Aid also contributed to our webinar, with a focus on the role faith actors in tackling the root causes and the consequences of Gender Based Violence. Lotfia shared programmatic interventions, which inform Muslim Aid’s advocacy at the UN Commission on the Status of Women. Listen to the Side by Side webinar HERE.

We still have one more webinar as part of this series. Sign up HERE.
