National coalitions
As part of Side by Side’s work for gender justice, members come together within the countries in which they live to organise their work nationally.
A working group in each geographical region will help countries to organise national consultations over the next couple of years. This will enable the movement to reach into the grassroots of local communities, where social change is worked out in practice.
When establishing each national coalition the participants will:
- review a series of issues concerning gender within their country, both the positives and the negatives
- identify key issues that need to be addressed, and discussed what barriers exist to overcoming these obstacles
- work out a common vision as to how these barriers may be overcome, and a developed strategy for working together to bring about change
- agree on a country statement and action plan reflecting their personal commitment
- make a commitment to support the global movement for gender justice
- make a commitment to share good practice and resources.
These outputs will set out the commitment of individuals and their pledge to work with their particular faith institutions to address the agreed issues and seek to change the harmful social behaviour and attitudes identified.
To date we have established a national coalition in Zimbabwe, and are in the planning stages of establishing coalitions in Scotland and England.

Pledge
We believe that gender justice can be achieved if individuals of faith – at all levels and from all backgrounds - work together to transform relationships so that no harm is tolerated.
