Regional workshops and coalitions

As a growing global movement working for gender justice, Side by Side members come from faith communities in many different countries. We are working together to meet the regional challenges and create justice and equality for all people, regardless of gender.
Recognising that each global region has its own needs, we embarked on a process of workshops to establish regional coalitions, and explore how people of faith can work for gender justice in their geographical contexts. To date we have held regional workshops in Latin America and the Caribbean and in East Africa.
Similar to activity at the national level, at each workshop participants will:
review a series of issues concerning gender within their region, both the positives and the negatives
- identify key issues that need to be addressed, and discussed what barriers exist to overcoming these obstacles
- work out a common vision as to how these barriers may be overcome, and a developed strategy for working together to bring about change
- agree on a regional statement and action plan reflecting their personal commitment
- make a commitment to support the global movement for gender justice
- make a commitment to share good practice and resources.
In 2016 we have plans to hold further workshops in Europe and Southern Africa. We are also developing plans to increase the number globally, to include North America, West Africa, Asia, Australasia and Oceania, and the Middle East.
